Do you have a question, but you don’t feel like walking all the way to the other side of campus? Do you feel clueless about what resources you have? Visit a Pop-up Library.

Librarians are now stationed in different parts of campus with free coffee and snacks. They are trying to spread the word about events they are hosting, but they also want to know what students want, too.

“Students have said that they don’t feel involved,” Student Equity and Outreach Librarian Eva Rios-Alvarado said. “We’re trying to be more available in different areas.”

This week and the following you can easily find Rios-Alvarado in Building 26 on Monday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Jared Burton in Building 30 on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The idea behind the Pop-Up Library is for students to connect with the available librarians and learn about the services and resources the campus offers. One of the big things they are trying to spread is that now the library is open seven days a week thanks to an increase in their budget.

One of the big events the library is trying to promote is Mt. SAC Get’s Lit* Fair. It’s open to students of all ages, including the little ones from Child Development. There’s going to be giveaways, free food and drinks, reading circles, coloring stations, and bilingual story time for the little ones. Faculty that are helping run the event include English as a Second Language ESL Councilor Vanessa Garcia, English professors John Brantingham and Selena Zelebon, and Child Development professor Kisha Wiliamson. Save the date: April 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. No RSVP required, just pop-up.
